The Orbicularis oris is a facial muscle.
Anatomical Attachments and Action: This sphincter muscle arises from invaginated fibers of the other facial muscles, especially at the angles of the mouth. Arise from decussated fibers of the Buccinator, which form the deep fibers of the lips. In concert with the levator and depressor labii and other facial muscles, provides a highly intergraded and coordinated function responsible for the ability to smile, frown, retain food, articulate speech, etc. (kissing muscle).
Nerve Supply: Cranial nerve VII (Facial nerve).
Vascular supply: Inferior, superior branches of the facial artery.
